Ana Langer, M.D.

Dr. Ana Langer is the President and CEO of EngenderHealth. She is a physician with board certification in pediatrics and neonatology, as well as a reproductive health specialist and public health researcher.

For the past 20 years, she has been a leading advocate for advancing women’s health and quality reproductive health services in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Dr. Langer comes to EngenderHealth after having spent 11 years as the Population Council’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean. Dr. Langer is a distinguished worldwide leader in the application of research findings to influence policy and clinical norms for the improvement of obstetrical care services and the overall quality of women’s and family health.

A globally renowned scholar, researcher, educator, and reproductive health specialist, Dr. Langer is expert in influencing policy and reshaping clinical norms to improve the quality of women’s and family health services. In Mexico City she has taught at the National Institute of Public Health, the National Polytechnic Institute School of Medicine, the Autonomous Metropolitan University School of Medicine, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico School of Medicine. She has been published extensively in more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific journals and has authored numerous books on reproductive and maternal health. She is an active member of several international associations and currently sits on the advisory board of the World Health Organization’s Advisory Committee on Health Research and the International Planned Parenthood Federation’s International Medical Advisory Panel.

Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Langer studied medicine at the National University of Buenos Aires and specialized in pediatrics and neonatology at the National Institute of Perinatology in Mexico City. She is fluent in Spanish, French, and English and is proficient in Portuguese.

Dr. Langer is a renowned scholar, researcher, educator and reproductive health specialist. For the past 20 years, she has been a leading advocate for advancing women’s health and quality reproductive health services in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Joining EngenderHealth from her 11-year post as the Population Council’s Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, she has also served as Acting Director of the Council’s Inter-Regional Reproductive Health Program. In Mexico, Dr. Langer was a special advisor to the Minister of Health and directed the Division of Research on Women and Children’s Health for the National Institute of Public Health.

Dr. Langer taught throughout Mexico City at the National Institute of Public Health, the National Polytechnic Institute School of Medicine, the Autonomous Metropolitan University School of Medicine and the National Autonomous University of Mexico School of Medicine. Dr. Langer is responsible for managing all major functions and programs at EngenderHealth, a not-for-profit organization. For more than 60 years, EngenderHealth has worked in over 90 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas to improve family planning and reproductive health services for women and men. Based on the belief that individuals have the right to make informed decisions about their reproductive health and to receive care that meets their needs, the organization works throughout the world in partnership with governments, institutions and health care professionals to make this right a reality.
