In Reproductive Rights -- Crossroads in the Courts Lisa Winjum, JD, Director, Public Affairs and Communications at Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, asserted that the most pressing issues endangering our reproductive rights were the Ayotte v Planned Parenthood case pending at that time (2006)before the Supreme Court, and the nomination of Samuel Alito to replace Justice Sandra Day O'Connor who announced her retirement from the Supreme Court in July 0f 2005. Ms. Winjum also succinctly summarized the wider attack on reproductive rights: the roadblocks complicating access to Emergency Contraception which we are witnessing at the federal level and in our local pharmacies.

Lisa Winjum joined Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic in March 2005 where she oversees government relations, advocacy, communications, and marketing activities. prior to joining the PPHP staff she was the Director of Public Policy and Communications at the Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services. She graduated magna cum laude, from the Quinnipiac University Law School where she was an Associate Editor of the Law Review. She received the American Jurisprudence Award in Torts, The National Association of Women Lawyer’s Award, and law school honors for Distinguished Academic Achievement and Excellence in Clinical Work.   She received a BA from The College of New Rochelle.
